What a beautiful day for a beautiful parade in the little town of Truro and area!

I teamed up with my Family, Boyfriend and the Truro Fire Department (my dad is a member) to ride an antique fire truck in today’s Canada Day parade! It was a lot of fun riding in the hose bed waving to people. I got a few “Look mommy a princess” which absolutely melted my heart.

I also got to see a few friends and MLA Lenore Zann in different floats or on the sidelines!

Overall an amazing day full of wonderful memories and a perfect Fireworks show to end it.

As Canadian citizens we have a lot to be proud of! <3

SO PROUD. BEYOND PROUD.

my little twinkies graduated today from highschool.

It was a long journey but you all made it out alive with your heads held high and Im so proud of those of you I get to call my friends.

Some of you worked your butts off, some of you just slid by. But either way you’re now entering the working world and its just the start of an amazing journey!

What happened in High School will not define you. You are now given the opportunity to be who you want and achieve what you want. As time progresses you’ll realize this more in more.

Im just so proud of all of you! So congratulations to the IB students, the honours students, the students involved in sports, reach for the top, GSA, the lunch table card players, student council members, band hall musicians, dancers, cheerleaders, cougar cafe workers and art kids. Plus anyone else I missed! You all earned this moment walking across the stage and I hope you all do amazing things with your futures.

Sorry I haven’t been updating as often! Prom has had my undivided attention for a long while.

It was a perfect night with a camping after party.

I think all these photos say enough.

Perfection.

Basically all over your local area (whether you are aware or not)  there are little tiny cashes varying in size that you can find using a GPS or mobile app.

Me and my friend Rick spent the afternoon walking all over town finding these hidden treasures!

It was so much fun exploring and catching up with an old friend. He’s just as busy as I am now of days

It’s a really fun hobby for people of all ages and abilities! You get out. get active. and overall enjoy the treasure hunt!

Made a trip to Moncton today!

It started off rainy, but as you can see there was nothing but clear skies from the afternoon on wards!

It was an AMAZING game! Colombia vs France and the England vs Mexico. All countries we’re fighting really hard

All though I don’t exactly agree 100% with the “FIFA” corporation. I love soccer and it was an amazing day spent with Family!

So here is a sensitive matter about myself.

Everyday I go through life feeling wrong. Typically I struggle through words and reading. I’m slow, I have horrible spelling and grammatical errors, Oral presentations used to terrify me, math or memorizing things is out of the question, and was told in grade ten by a math teacher “You probably won’t graduate on time”

I struggled everyday with school thinking I was just stupid. I’d write essays, spend hours plucking away. Trying to get it perfect, trying to match up to the rest of the class; Only to fall short with “below average”

Seeing my peers around me succeed without struggle. those working as hard as I, getting 90’s. Those working little to nothing getting better marks then me. I was enraged to tears over every assignment I attempted. So I stopped. Somewhere in Jr High I just stopped trying.

When entering my high school career I got to choose courses. My entire mind and body wanted a challenge. Wanted to leap into IB or the French program, Wanted advanced maths and challenging English texts. I loved exploring education and opening my mind to the complexities of the world. But… I wasn’t intelligent enough.. my grades were “Below average”, my tests and teachers showed me that I was “un teachable”. So I took the recommenced standard and foundations.

My first year at high school was the roughest experience I had ever endured. I had gone from complete French courses to English, somewhat challenging academic courses to mind numbly boring ones. Id grasp the knowledge right away but attempting to again vocalize or express it onto paper, was a futile attempt.

I remember it was my second week of school, grade 10. I had just asked the math teacher a question about liner equations (it might have been a language barrier question where I didn’t know the English equivalent). When she demanded me to stand up in front of the quiet class, approach her desk and proceeded to say “Annie, I’m switching you seats to be at the back of the class. Work on your other courses papers, you’re too stupid for this room; you’re going to fail”.. Not only did she address me by the wrong name, She called me stupid. Saying this to a French student just being introduced to English maths only 2 weeks into the course and telling them to simply ‘give up’.

In grade 11 I was diagnosed because of my mothers intervening. After many weeks of getting called to student services to answer a wide range of tests and questions, they came to the conclusion that I was an advanced level student with a learning impairment hand in hand with Dyslexia. All the years I was being taught the wrong way and needed to change my approach to learning and taking exams fast. I wasn’t un-teachable. I was being taught wrong and nobody noticed.

With their recommendation I entered Advanced English 11 and 12 with a special laptop exception which allowed me to do my projects in more of a speak to text, audio book, visual manor. I excelled.

I took

Art IB. completed with a internationally recognized mark of 90%

Sciences

Technology courses

All with a laptop exception and excelled

And then on graduation day in grade 12. I left high school as an honor student receiving praise and a medal for my exemplary work in the digital technology programs.

currently in the working world, Sometimes I struggle. Manuals, reading instructions, remembering tasks, vocalizing thoughts correctly to peers. But it doesn’t stop me because there’s ways around what my mind is preventing me from doing.

Currently to write this blog i’m using the “speak to text” option on my computer. There’s ways around everything, and this makes me unique. So please never give up on trying to figure out your own special way of achieving greatness. Everyone can, It just takes time and determination.

So I am beyond proud of all my high school friends and boyfriend today. Throughout the last two years they have done something I could only dream of doing. They have gone above and beyond the typical High school curriculum and enrolled in a skill testing program called the international baccalaureate (IB). This program tests working knowledge, logical thinking, questioning, working with others, working under time restraints and thrusts the first year of university equivalent towards high school students.

It takes a lot of hard work, late nights and determination to successfully finish even one class of this two year program. That is why i’m so very happy to say that my boyfriend and his best friend completed 3 IB classes and have received their well earned certificates today!

I’m just so, so very proud. Of all the Ib participants and graduates of CEC. You made it guys. This is only the very beginning <3

wOO! so today I spent super busy working as part of the Spartan Race crew

11391356_1049259255086452_2811194518051273970_n11148378_1049258958419815_5828230153810503529_n10405343_1049259008419810_2327165593111031343_n10171142_1049259168419794_5181265726640845548_n11401344_1049259285086449_2433725633283917632_n

IT WAS SO MUDDY AND RAINY BUT I LOVED IT!

I got up for this job at 4 am and then car pooled with some very generous strangers to be at the hill for 6am. It was a very cold, very busy day.

They had me working registration, running up and down the hill helping child racers and then eventually doing the entire hill’s tear down.

I was exhausted but it was well worth it. I now know how much I want to participate in the race next year. The smiles on the finishers faces said enough.

For those who don’t know The Spartan Race is an international annual obstacle course. Thousands of racers show up rain or shine to crawl through mud, climb ropes, jump over bars, lift themselves over giant walls and climb the ENTIRE ski hill by foot. It’s an intense measure of endurance and strength.  this course easily can take over an hour to complete and leaves you covered head to toe in mud. (Trust me.)

I give all the competitors props for even attempting this task. You guys deserve the title of “Spartan Racer” for sure!

So today I found myself wandering into Le École acadienne to speak with some amazing women from a variety of careers about empowering young girls into a working environment. I heard some fascinating stories and got to share to young students about my journey through high school, Skills Canada, Youth forum, the military, Guatemala and soo much more. Everyone was so uplifting to hear from. All you girls and women were so inspiring and I have such high hopes for our futures. You all have made, and will continue to make; such a positive difference in the world.

I really hope this movement continues. It’s wonderful seeing women take action and celebrate one another accomplishments, while inspiring an entirely new generation!  <3
